I put this post together in May of 2024 and I’m finally getting around to posting it.
I thought this one up while I was trying unsuccessfully to go to sleep. Here are a few image of progress on this one. This will be an articulated piece where the donkey heads will move by means of a pull rod. As it turned out I decided to not make this piece articulated.
The donkey heads were cut from card stock with a Cricut cutter. They will laminated together with thinned wood glue in groups of eight shapes. I will probably only use the green ones.
I am marking where tiny holes will be drilled with the aid of a template I designed in Affinity Designer and a sharp point. This will become the sofa seat.
The holes are marked and ready to be drilled.
80 1mm holes and 80 small nails with the heads cut off and tarnished with heat, water, and vinegar. This is the bed of the sofa. The next step is to finish the sofa with back and legs. After it has been painted I will glue the nails point side up into each hole with epoxy.
Here is the finished piece that turned out to be with no moving parts except the hanging white donkey birds.
